How to Diet Properly – Find Out What You Eat!

Knowing how to diet properly is the way to get good results and the quickest way to lose weight. One great way of starting your weight losing process is to monitor your daily eating habits. This basically means making a record of everything you eat on a given day or a week. And I do mean everything! Try to be precise and honest. I know it might hurt to see the ugly truth (or you might be pleasantly surprised!), but to get this thing started for real you must know where you stand. Then you can see what needs to be changed. Perhaps the problem is too much sugar? How much alcohol do you consume? Does the time of the day affect your eating? Are you suffering from emotional eating? This takes more effort than trying to lose 20 pounds with some fast diet out there and be done with it for a while after the diet is over, but fast diets rarely give permanent weight loss results. Going through the trouble once will save you from having to worry about dieting later on.

A healthy diet consists of proper amounts of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals, vitamins, water and dietary fiber. Here is a short explanation how they work:

Protein is needed to develop, maintain and repair muscles and other body tissues. Protein is also important for your immune system. We need to get protein from our diet every single day.
Carbohydrates are one source of energy. When digested, the body breaks them down to sugar.
Fats are another source of energy. They also play an important role in maintaining healthy skin and hair, and are used by the immune system too. Many vitamins are fat-soluble. Getting enough fats is very important to our well-being. it might be possible that consuming fat keeps us thinner: fats might actually be fat burning foods!
Minerals and vitamins are important for a countless amount of processes in the body. Both of these are critical to the body’s normal functions.
Water is essential to body functions. 60% of the male human body and 55% of the female human body is water. Many vitamins are water-soluble.
Dietary fiber pushes food through the digestive system and absorbs water.

We need to be balanced both nutrition-wise to stay healthy and energy-wise to keep us running. Most official recommendations suggest that we use carbohydrates as our main energy source and avoid fats. However, the research on weight control and health does not support this recommendation. The reason the people are gaining weight and suffering from heart diseases, diabetes, perhaps even from cancer, seems to be in carbohydrates, not fats. Counting your daily calorie requirement and calculating consumed calories is not the solution either, since different types of foods cause different reactions in the body. This is why it is important to become aware of the nutritional values of different foods.

One way to do it is to write everything into a notebook and count your nutritional intake manually. You can take a look of the nutritional information on the packaging to figure out what you actually ate. An easier solution is to use a food diary, which is great tool for following your food intake and your weight. A food diary will give you graphs and figures and will help you to figure out how to change your diet to lose weight. Most of the weight loss tips given by experts include keeping a food diary. Knowing how to diet properly will help you to come up with the best diet for your needs, which in turn will help you stay motivated, because you will start to see results very quickly. Most food diaries also have a list of exercises to lose weight, so you can also keep track of your workout routine. If you are practicing intuitive eating, it is a good idea to keep a food diary every now and then and make sure you are getting all the nutrients you need.

Hopefully these tips on how to lose weight will help you lose weight quick and keep the pounds off for good!
